Privacy Policy

Last updated: February 25, 2026

1. Introduction

PinPoint ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application and services.

By using PinPoint, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy. If you do not agree with our policies and practices, please do not use the App.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Location Information

As a location-based service, PinPoint collects and processes your precise location data when you:

  • Drop a pin at a specific location
  • Browse pins in your vicinity
  • Use the map features within the App

Location pins are time-limited and automatically deleted after their expiration period. We do not store your location history beyond the active pin duration.

2.2 Personal Information

We collect personal information that you voluntarily provide when creating an account:

  • Name or display name
  • Email address or phone number
  • Profile photo (optional)
  • Bio or description (optional)

2.3 Usage Data

We automatically collect certain information when you use the App:

  • Device information (model, operating system, unique device identifiers)
  • App usage data (features used, time spent, interactions)
  • Log data (IP address, access times, app crashes)

2.4 Identity Verification & Liveness Detection

To prevent fraudulent account creation and ensure the safety of our community, we require users to complete a one-time identity verification during account setup. This process involves:

  • Phone Verification: Confirmation of a valid phone number
  • Liveness Detection: A real-time check to confirm that the account is being created by a live human being, not a bot or spoofed image

This liveness check is performed by our third-party verification provider, Didit (didit.me). During this process, your device camera captures a momentary facial analysis solely to confirm human presence. PinPoint does not collect, access, store, or retain any facial images, facial geometry, or biometric identifiers.

The raw face data is processed entirely by Didit on their secure infrastructure, and only a verification result (pass/fail) is returned to our system.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the collected information for various purposes:

  • Core Functionality: Enable pin dropping, location matching, and connection requests
  • User Experience: Personalize your experience and improve app features
  • Safety & Security: Monitor for suspicious activity, prevent abuse, and enforce our Terms
  • Communication: Send notifications about matches, connection requests, and important updates
  • Analytics: Understand how users interact with the App to improve our services
  • Legal Compliance: Comply with legal obligations and protect our rights

4. Information Sharing and Disclosure

4.1 With Other Users

When you drop a pin, other users who pin the same location can see:

  • Your profile information (name, photo, bio)
  • The approximate time you dropped your pin

Your full contact information is only revealed after both parties accept a connection request.

4.2 With Service Providers

We may share your information with third-party service providers who assist us in:

  • Cloud hosting and data storage
  • Analytics and performance monitoring
  • Push notification services
  • Customer support services
  • Identity Verification: We use Didit (didit.me) to perform phone number and liveness verification. Face data processed during liveness checks is handled solely by Didit in accordance with their Privacy Policy.

4.3 For Legal Reasons

We may disclose your information if required by law or in response to valid requests by public authorities (e.g., a court or government agency).

5. Data Retention

We retain your information only for as long as necessary to provide our services and fulfill the purposes outlined in this Privacy Policy:

  • Location Pins: Automatically deleted after expiration (typically 24-72 hours)
  • Account Data: Retained until you delete your account
  • Messages: Stored until deleted by you or your conversation partner
  • Verification Data: PinPoint retains only the verification status (verified/not verified) associated with your account. No face data or biometric information is stored by PinPoint. Any data processed by Didit during verification is subject to Didit's own retention policies.

6. Your Privacy Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the following rights:

  • Access: Request a copy of the personal information we hold about you
  • Correction: Update or correct inaccurate information
  • Deletion: Request deletion of your personal information
  • Portability: Receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format
  • Opt-Out: Opt out of certain data processing activities
  • Location Services: Disable location access at any time through your device settings (note: this will limit app functionality)

7. Data Security

We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your information:

  • Encryption of data in transit and at rest
  • Regular security assessments and updates
  • Limited access to personal information by authorized personnel only
  • Secure authentication mechanisms

However, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
